Sonia should not prolong T issue: CPI Narayana

Karimnagar: The Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary K Narayana appealed to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi that she should not prolong the Telangana issue in the name of consultations and take an immediate decision in favour of it.

At a “Meet the Press” programme organised jointly by Telangana Journalists’ Forum and Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Association (APWJA) here on Wednesday, Mr Narayana said that because of the Telangana issue, the entire state was in crisis and the future of people was in jeopardy. Mrs Sonia Gandhi should give up her adamant attitude towards the Telangana issue and take a categorical decision without any delay.

“The state’s political future now depends on Sonia Gandhi. But her future is linked with the Swiss bank where she stashed away black money,” he alleged.

Mr Narayana said the Telangana movement was being run by people, not a political party. As the movement was now in peoples’ hands, the Government should respect the sentiment of the people and take a favourable decision carving out Telangana state.

As both the Union and State Governments have introduced the formation of separate Telangana state in their agendas, they had no moral right to suppress the movement and prolong the issue without taking any decision on it.

Referring to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani’s 38- day long Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption, the CPI state secretary alleged that the main objective of the yatra is to encourage corruption at all levels and promote himself as a prime ministererial candidate of the BJP in the next general election.

When the BJP- lead NDA Government was in power, large scale corruption was reported at various levels and many BJP leaders were involved in different scams. But, neither party nor government had initiated any action against them and rather, kept silent on the matter. So, there was no credibility for Advani’s yatra, the CPI leader pointed out.
